I'm chairing the Algorithms, Geometry, and Applications (ALGA) cluster at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of TU Eindhoven.
Algorithms and data structures; discrete and computational geometry; applications of computational geometry to geographic information systems, geo-visualization and visual analytics, and e-Humanities.
This video (from 2011) is an attempt to explain my research interests to a broader audience ... hover the images below for some more examples.
From 2010 until 2015 I was a member of The Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen). From 2011 to 2016 I was a member of the Global Young Academy. In 2011 I won the first Netherlands Prize for ICT Research (see here for some more details in Dutch). Part of the prize was a poster which gives a high-level impression of my work and was sent to high schools all over the Netherlands.
24th SIAM Symposium on Algorithm Engineering and Experiments (ALENEX 2022, Alexandria Old Town, VA, USA)
34th International Symposium on Computational Geometry (SoCG 2018, Budapest, Hungary)
42nd International Colloquium on Automata, Languages, and Programming - Track A (ICALP 2015, Kyoto, Japan)
Computational Geometry: Young Researchers Forum (YRF 2013, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
19th International Symposium on Graph Drawing (GD 2011, Eindhoven, The Netherlands)
Before I came to Eindhoven I was a postdoc in the Combinatorics, Geometry and Computation European Graduate Program at ETH Zurich. In Zurich I was a member of the Theory of Combinatorial Algorithms group headed by Emo Welzl. I received my Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where I was supervised by David Kirkpatrick and Jack Snoeyink.
